Strathkelvin Shinty Club

The club was formed in 2006, following demand principally from the pupils of Bun Sgoil Innis an Uillt to participate in the sport and initially was known as Meadowburn Shinty. Since then the club has grown to include children from all over East Dunbartonshire and the surrounding areas. In 2012 the club was renamed Strathkelvin Shinty Club. We are affiliated with the Taynuilt Shinty Club as well!

The club includes players from 5 to 17 years of age irrespective of experience or ability and competes in the Central Scotland Youth Shinty Association league and various competition run by the Camanachd Association.

In its short life the club has performed at a high level in the CSYSA leagues, as well as winning the 2008 Under-10 Kelvinhall Shinty Festival, 2010 Under-12 Kelvin Hall Shinty Festival, the 2009 Under-8 McNiven Memorial Trophy, and both the 2010 CSYSA Development Indoor and Outdoor Leagues.

Introduction of the beginners game of ‘First Shinty’ affords new players the opportunity to gradually develop their skills before progressing to the wooden stick game. The game is played indoors with plastic sticks and lightweight balls.

As with all junior shinty, helmets are worn during play. Children require to wear suitable footwear and shin-guards during training and match play. Although the teams compete regularly in various competitions the main emphasis of the club is the development of the children.

The club is a member of and is insured through the Camanachd Association, which is the governing body for shinty and all our coaches have ‘Disclosure Scotland’ approval.
